Scholarships

There are four scholarship opportunities annually available to graduating seniors who play hockey in the PIHL:

  • Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship (Due May 1)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association Scholarship (Due May 1)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Scholarship (Due May 1)
  • John Mucha Memorial Scholarships, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League  Scholarships (Due March 15)

2024 Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Scholarship

Applications for the 2024 Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Scholarship are now available for deserving seniors attending a Pittsburgh Public School or select high schools within Allegheny County.
Each scholarship is valued at $3,000 for the student’s first year of college; and an additional $2,000 will be awarded for the student’s second year of college if a 3.0 GPA is maintained and a minimum of 24 credit hours are earned.

2024 Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship

The Pittsburgh Penguins will award an annual Pittsburgh Penguins/Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship to a high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, good citizenship and school/community involvement. The student should demonstrate an intense love for the game of hockey personified by on-ice hustle, achievement beyond his/her talent level, leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.
The scholarship award is valued at $5,000.

2024 Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association Scholarship 

The Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association will award its annual scholarship valued at $5,000 to a high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, good citizenship, school and community involvement, and who has shown an intense love for the game of hockey personified by on-ice hustle, achievement beyond his/her talent level, leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.

2023-2024 PIHL John Mucha Memorial Scholarships

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League offers five, $500 scholarships in honor of John Mucha, Commissioner of the PIHL who had passed away unexpectedly early in January of 2023. These scholarships are awarded to senior hockey players currently participating in the PIHL. While the greatest emphasis is on academic performance, other facets of the student-athlete are also a part in the selection process.

The complete application and corresponding paperwork must be received (postmarked or in hand) no later than March 15, 2024.
