November 2019 PIHL Player of the Month

COLE MITCHELL - FREEPORT

Cole Mitchell has quickly emerged as one of the top defensemen in PIHL Class A this season. As a junior at Freeport, he has 6 goals and 9 assists in 9 games, placing him as the top-scoring defenseman in the entire classification. Mitchell has put up three points in a game on three different occasions this season, leading his team to wins in each of those games. One of those games include a 2-goal performance by Mitchell, a somewhat rare feat for a defenseman. He has 2 power-play goals while adding 4 assists with the man advantage, and he has taken only 6 penalties on the year, despite logging a large amount of ice time for his team each night. He is also the team leader in assists and points for the Yellowjackets.

Mitchell excels in the classroom at Freeport High School, boasting a 4.3 grade point average. He has achieved that scholastic level while carrying a challenging academic course load, including taking Calculus 2 in just his junior year. His work ethic also includes manual labor, as Mitchell regularly contributes a helping hand to his family’s horse farm in Armstrong County. And outside of hockey and his studies, Mitchell volunteers at the Freeport Food Bank.
